Dipstick Found!!!!!

I found the dipstick and am hopeful I put it back in the correct hole...I couldn't actually 'see' it but could feel it. I need a flashlight. I'm making a list.

I couldn't find the dipstick thingie for the transmission BUT...there is a yellow screw on cap that I couldn't get off (girl here and nails - HELLO).... I'm wondering if that's for the oil. It is a Yanmar and I also found out it's a H30 not a H35 as I orignally thought (ahem). She's a lovely boat. I'm in love with my boat. Oh well.

I want to learn everything I can about her...... even if it means getting oil under my nails. I'm kind of like it he he he.

Kimy

I'll be up at the boat this weekend (I'm ripping off the floor)

Willl look for the dipstick.

:)

Thanks Denise!!!

Good Morning Denise!

Kimmy,
First you want to know where the forward and reverse lever is. and the throttle. Other Hunter owners can help you there.

Buzzer, when you turn the key? is normal.. should stop after engine starts...

With shift lever in NEUTRAL some boats have a button for "glow plugs" You hold that down for 30 seconds with key "on" then, while still holding the button down. turn the key to start. The warning lamp should be in the panel with the key and buzzer. they would come on when low on oil or if engine stops running. Diesel engine oil turns black soon as it's put in after an oil change just the way diesels are. Oil change before and after each season at least.

unless you motor allot. Little diesels in sailboats get many hours of distance on a few gallons of fuel not like car or gas powered speed boat.

Just a few questions for you. is your boat in the water? Have you any crew yet? Sailing experience?

If were there I could give you the basics! I have Family in the Hixson and Soddy Daisey areas. My son used to sail up here withe a small racing club, and with me sometimes, He has some experience cruising and racing but not likely able to teach.

Suggestions; Take a sailboat diesel engine class ( you may have to travel some to find one)
Read! how to sail books, Also; YouTube has thousands of instructional vids on how to do just about everything

That list you started will grow and grow as many will state. Falling in love with your boat is a dangerous and comforting affair, welcome to the club. Every boat has a certain personality that will get under your skin either in a good or bad way, sounds like your on the good side. Getting some grease under your nails will only get you closer to understanding your vessel and her needs. Remember! There are no stupid questions but you may get many stupid answers lol. Dan
