Very nice. If you want a suggestion, I'd suggest getting rid of the lower eye bolt and putting an eye nut on the other end of the top one (cut the excess bolt off). That way, you're not squeezing the tube. Judging by the small radius of the tube edges, it looks like pretty thin wall tube, which may crush under the many hundred pounds of force applied to those eye bolts. Just a suggestion. ;)

Or he could just put an appropriate sized bushing inside the tube and put the eyebolt thru it. Cut off the excess.

Yup. They're close enough to each other to minimize the likelihood of distortion.

Looks good. Very much like the one I made. You must be a great mind like me because we think alike. One suggestion: add cleats at top and bottom to wrap the line around while in storage or transport.

That is a good idea. Wrap the line around two cleats like the cord on an upright vacuum cleaner.

I pull the blocks apart on mine, so I get 5 parts* of line across most of the 6 ft of gin pole, then coil the rest. I need to coil less than half the line, and with the lower block connected to the pin in the fork (that goes to the mast tabernacle when in use) for storage, it stays neat and is easy to put to work when needed.

*I use a triple and a double with becket for 5 parts of line. With Harken 3" ball bearing midrange blocks, I can raise the mast one-handed if needed (no winch), and I use the main halyard rope clutch so I really can use just one hand, and stop safely anywhere.

I built a gin pole for my oday 25. 10 ft long
How long is the mast on an Oday 25?

You really could get along with a shorter pole if you wanted easier storage and handling. I use a 6 ft on my mast which is 28 feet.

YMMV

30 feet I believe.

The mast on my 1986 O'Day 222 is 27' long and I had my son weld up a Gin Pole out of 1" stainless steel pipe. It comes apart and stows in a quarter birth compartment.
I also use pivot bridles and baby stays because my boat has a CDI Roller Furler.
I'm able to raise/lower my mast on the trailer or in the water at the dock or mooring.

I got this Gin Pole idea off my friend Wayne who uses a small boat winch mounted on his Gin Pole, and he stole the idea off McGregor.

I step mine towards the stern because it goes beyond the pivot point towards the bow. I have a bracket similar to a mast crutch that it settles into. This bracket contains a v-shaped bow roller. I roll it into or out of position as my lovely bride watches the shrouds and lines to keep them from catching as they are so prone to do. We also have a bridle and temporary stays like Trink.
