I have a new 42.3 Beneteau, I need direction on where to locate the a gimbaled mount for my radar ..I do not want it on the mast.....I would like it installed on the stern of the yacht, backstay unit, is there a pole that attaches to the stern rails, ideas welcome. Star of the Sea

Why?????????

I have had both gimballed and rigid mounts. They perform the same. I generally use my radar when transiting closed areas in the fog or at night. For sailing in open water, an AIS coupled to your radar is far more useful than a gimballed mount and for less money. The boat will roll sufficiently to mimimize the signal lost due to the heel of the boat. Beneteau makes a very nice radar arch for your boat. That coupled with an 12" radar stand http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|344|320737|320946|608637&id=145811 will fulfill your needs. Jim
