Gift ideas for a teen new to sailing

Thanks for the great advice everyone. Due to the multiple recommendations for books in general, and specifically for that about Solcum's adventures and Maiden Voyage, we opted for the latter. We think this relatively recent account (compared to that of Slocum's) of a voyage taken by someone near his age, will really resonate with our nephew.

In Maiden Voyage she navigated by sextant and charts. That was pre-GPS.

Good Old Boat...the magazine for the rest of us...is a fantastic magazine. You should at least sign him up for a free issue. They also have great sailing related tee shirts.

Also, considering todays generation...a waterproof bag for his ipod / cell phone.

The Leatherman is on sale at Costco's for $29.99. Bought one for myself today (I also bought myself a book).
You can get a pretty decent sailing knife at WM for under $30 too.
