Just did mine
My '76 Oday 22 also has Gibb England winches on it which are not self-tailing. From what I could find out, Gibb was bought out a few years ago by Lewmar (I think). Anyway they were pretty easy to service. As mentioned in other posts, if you are doing this at the dock be real careful about not losing the parts overboard. Some have suggested inserting a cardboard box over the winch during disassembly. The center screw removes the drum exposing the lower pawls. I removed those and soaked in mineral spirits and cleaned the spindle. I then used 3&1 oil on the pawls and springs and reassembled. The top of the drum contains a spring type retention clip which when removed, will reveal the inner pawls. Joe, is correct about being careful using grease. However I did put a very light coating of white lithium grease on the serrated portion of the lower drum, being aware that too much will foul the pawls and attract gunk. Put em back together and they're clicking away nicely. Here's another link that may be helpful.
