Hello, our gib unrolled during a storm and shattered. Now we have to buy another and I would like to consult before making the purchase. Our boat is a 37 foot Hunter Cherubini 1979 and had a 44 luff, 19 foot Gib .

We are going for a used sail, but most of them are 23, 24, up to 26 foot sails.

I would appreciate your opinion if That 4, 5 or 6 additional feet al the bottom of the sail, will be ok for our boat.

Also there are dacron 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 oz . Here at the Caribbean some time we have strong winds, but dont know if 7 or 8 will be too heavy.

Thanks !!

I have a 37.5 legend with a Yankee cut jib. It's a different boat, but the issue with the extra square footage may be getting overpowered easily with all that jib out. Especially, in the Caribbean with those trade winds. I suspect if you were mindful of reefing, you should be okay. Be aware of the pitfalls of reefing a jib like loss of shape, inefficiency, etc. As a side note, I always admired Cherubini boats.

Ben.

Thanks for your comments Ben, usually we sail between Isla Mujeres and Cancun with a calm sea, but when we travel is another story.
