Hello all, brbr

I am at the boat right now and have decided to try a few more things before i make a final decision on this motor.brbr

I am trying to see if the exhaust is choked up with soot. I have pulled off the thermostat housing. And, I have the exhaust manifold disconnected from the engine, but i can't seem to get it loose from the piece at the end that connects to the exhaust/water pipe assembly. It is a metal flange that connects directly to the end of the manifold by 4 bolts.brbr

I have pulled, pushed, whacked at it to no avail.brbr

Is there a trick to getting this thing off? br
Is there something I still need to disconnect?brbr

Thanks for any quick assistance...br

If you have removed the four bolts, the flange should come off, unless
someone used some gasket cement (the wrong kind will act like a glue). You
may need to use some solvent or some heat to soften up the cement. By the
way, I looked at my MD6B and it certainly has quite a few frost plugs. Good
luck. Trevor V2915

Thanks Trevor,

Yes, I did see some kind of plug on the lower block area. I'll see if there are more.

Guess, I go start pulling on that flange some more.

If you can do it safely, try putting a torch to the flange and the nuts. Keep a fire extinguisher handy and be careful!Nicholas Walsh

I went to the hardware store and bought an 18" crowbar and a rubber mallet (now I own two..). Took some reall whacking, but it came loose. It was just permatexed on there. Surprisingly strong. Probably because of the large surface area that was adhered. brbr

Whenever I have the urge to really hit or pull at something, i get scared. I have broken so many things that way.brbr

Thanks for all the help so far. I still have some more questions to come..brbr

Hi Groundhog

The gasket for this is very expensive (£50) so that is why they used
that gunk. I expect you will have to use the same when you refit the
manifold.
