Getting a head

I'm getting ready to install a proper marine head. I saw some
pictures from 'bbach' and wondered if he was still on the list. I saw
he used PVC and wondered how that was working out. I also thought i
saw some sort of insulation/ hull liner--what works?

Has anyone else used PVC?
Does anyone have experience with Lavac?
I sail on an MDZ, any insights regarding holding tanks?

Any additional pictures would be welcome.

I'm still here. If you're referring to the hoses, I originally used
standard pvc flex hose, but it allowed odor to permeate. I switched to rigid ABS
plumbing where I could with high priced Sealand head hose where I had to
(joints that might flex). Much better and more comfortable sleeping in the forward
cabin. I posted some pictures years ago, but took them off when the site
got too full. I went with a Jabsco head (maybe $100) and don't think it was a
mistake. Not a lot of room for something better. I've had no problems.

Hello, Here I am again. I installed a head with a 12 gallon tank that
I am particularily proud of. Odor is a only a small problem. Check

We are going to the Bahamas and had to arrange for self pumping of
the holding tank. The tank is in stainless steel.

HI Victor -

In 2001 I researched options for a replacement head, so this may be a bit
dated. I was tiring of rebuilding my PAR every spring! My final
considerations were the Lavac with electric pump (vacuum flushing) or the
Raritan PHI. I had great recommendations for both from this list and local
sailors. Bought the smaller Lavac, but it didn't quite fit properly, so we
exchanged it for the Raritan. It works great manually or with the electric
pump. I love that we can operate it in manual mode if we are low on power.
I am very happy with the results, now with 4 seasons use.

Regarding insulating hull liner - DON'T. It was installed in my boat for
several years before I got it and was beginning to disintegrate. It is
NASTY stuff to remove. I replaced it with the standard hull liner and am
very happy with that. My sailing season is June to December, and I don't
think the insulating hull liner made a significant difference.

Hi Alan,

Where did you get your holding tank from? Was it shaped to fit the hull or a rectangular
box?

Hello, I had it made custom in stainless steel. Stainless steel
outfitters made it. They make all the stainless stuff for C&C and
Tartan I believe.

It was shaped to follow the curve of the sheer. I another words the
forward part was smaller than the aft part. I have the dimesions in a
designcad format if required.
