Peggy and others who might have answers: I have your book and have been reading about winterizing your plumbing (I want to be ready when the time comes) You describe disconnecting the inlet and outlet hoses on the water heater and connecting them together. Do you mean the cold in and hot out going to the rest of the boat fawcets? What about the outlet hose going to the engine and the hose returning to the water heater. Do they need to be disconnected or does it not matter? Seems to me when you drain the water heater you would also drain this whole section (assuming you have a good vent). By the way what is the motive force for this loop going thru the engine? Would it harm the engine to drain this section of piping?

Yes...and no....

"You describe disconnecting the inlet and outlet hoses on the water heater and connecting them together. Do you mean the cold in and hot out going to the rest of the boat fawcets?" Yes. "What about the outlet hose going to the engine and the hose returning to the water heater." The heat exchanger coil is part of your engine cooling system, not part of your plumbing. Any winterization of the coil would be a part of engine winterization. Btw, Bret...I read ALL the posts to every forum each day...it only takes a minute to scroll through all the headers for the last 24 hours. If I only read the HM forum, I'd miss at least 3/4 of the plumbing questions.
