I own a '96 430, purchased new in June, 1997. Have had major problems with a Viking (brand name) Genset, resulting in failure and need to replace. I am interested in communicating with any owners of 430's or any other Hunters that have experience or knowledge of this Genset. The company that manufactured the unit was located in Jacksonville, FL and is no longer in business. Thanks for any replies.

We're looking at something a little different...

for our 430. We have be consdiering a unit that is fairly popular in San Diego. It is a one cyl diesel that spins an external 200 amp alternator. It only uses 1 qt of fuel an hour. We have a Heart 2000 inverter and (4) 8d house batteries. I'm having brain fade right now and can't remember the manfacturer, but if your interested I'll look it up and let you know. Also we've never had a generator and I would like your opinion on this option. Our boat is loaded with electronics, but doesnt have, nor do we intend to add, A/C.. Dick McKee S/V Constellation

Frank, I have a '95 430, and she is berthed in Dunedin, right across the bay from you. Let me have you e-mail address (mine is SAILBURG@AOL.COM) and I'll send you the details. Have been very pleased with it - very quiet, and runs my two A/C units and everything else with no problems. Pete S/V KAILANI

Apollo, Frank and Dick..

..is the outfit that uses the small diesel and 200 amp DC alternator. Very slick when using a 2000 watt inverter. Quiet and light. A grand or more less than competition. I was considering it seriously for my 40.5. Apollo Diesel Generators 833 W. 17th St. Unit 3 Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 650-1240 I think they have a static website someplace. Good luck; RD

Caution, do you require 115AC?

A small diesel turning an alternator to charge your batteries seems like a cost-efficient alternative. But that requires that you run your 115V appliances through your inverter. You can run small AC appliances but I don't think a 16K BTU air-conditioner will work. The startup current draw is probably too high for your battery bank.

Viking Gensets

Thanks to the 4 responses to date..... am looking for 430 owners who had the Viking brand genset installed as original equipment (or added). I am being told that there are satisfied customers out there with this same equipment, and I need to hear from them.
