Hi, been sailing a capri 26 for 3 years but the tracks for my genoa are on the cabin while every other boats i see got their tracks each side of it. I was told that my my boat would a lot better upwind with that set-up. I don,t mind putting winches in the back (I just have 2 on the cabin), but I am not sure I want to drill so many holes trough the roof to install 2 tracks that might make a little difference in my upwind sailing . Apparently, my sails are too close on from the other to get good speed out of it and i have the tendency to believe it cause lot of my buddies past me by faster than it should .( I also have problem sailing downwind because of that) Some say don't touch it, it was designed like that. Who's right and who's wrong. Anybody had this problem before? I would like some advices.

Thanks

Joe

What you're talking about is called a "sheeting angle".... the angle between a straight line from the sail tack to your lead block and the boat's centerline. If you want to create a wider sheeting angle you can rig a "barber hauler". This device will allow you to pull the clew outboard to open this angle.

You can experiment with the sheeting angle and a temporary barber hauler by attaching a block to as secure place on the rail, such as a stanchion base. Put another block on the sheet.... tie a line to the sheet block and run it through the rail block then back to a winch or cleat..... Because you only have the one set of winches you'll be limited on your convenience of adjustent. You'll probably have to set the barberhauler when the jibsheet is not under tension.

If you find the results to your liking........ consider installing an outside track near or directly on the rail. You'll be able to switch between the inside and outside track as conditions dictate.

I too would like to add the deck mounted tracks and coaming mounted winches that were present on the later model CP26. I'm now sailing in an area where a 135 to 150 genoa would be more appropriate than the 110 I'm running. While mounting the track and winch on the port side is no problem, on the starboard side the cabin liner does not allow direct access to the under side of the deck or coaming for backing plates/washers. Has anyone done this upgrade on a Capri 26 and if so, how?
