Genoa track

Now I'm getting confused. I'm starting to research adding a genoa track to my 87 H23. The responses I had earlier suggested 1. putting it just inside the railing near the lifeline posts. 2. not putting it near the edge but instead as close to the cabin top as possible. Looking back through the archives, I found one H23 (Greg's?) where it was placed centered and directly in front of the winch. I found another where 2 tracks were used (one near the winch and a second near the cabin top). Finally, I found one where it sounded like three were used forming a skewed "N" pattern where the diagnonal of the "N" is parallel to the beam of the boat and very short. Are all the differences in placement due to the sails being used? Since I'm still using hanks on my 110 (or 100), does this make a difference as well?

Track

In order for the boat to point really well it needs to be located in board as far as you can. As you look at some of the race boats in sail mag. look where the tracks are. Check out a Tripp 26 Mum 30 and 36, Henderson 30 any J Boats S2 7.9 the list could go on. Just look through Sailing World and you will find where the track is located. On my 23 I had the T track next to the cabin top and I had a short spreader boat and I could point as high as a Catalina 22 that draws 5 feet. Usually going to the out board track like at the rail opens the slot between the Genoa and the Main and this depowers the rig. I have had a Hunter 23 and a 25.5. I now have a Tripp 26 and we have two sets of track one in board and one out about 4 inches and we go to the out side track to open the slot and carry the 150 longer. By opening the slot we don't need to have a 130 on the boat. We did the same on our 25.5 but went to the toe rail with snatch blocks. Call you sail maker and ask him if the T track should be along the cabin top or along the toe rail. If you check the archives you'll find some of the stuff I have written on the 23. Cliff

Hey Cliff

You didn't keep that H25.5 very long, did you?! Is your e-mail address still the same? I have a couple of questions for you regarding prepping my H23 for the fall and winter race season. The boat is out of the water for the summer (no wind and too hot!). You'll hear from me in a couple of days. Peter H23 "Raven"

Guess Hunter didn't know

I posted a picture of a 1989 or 1990 H23 Hunter scanned from a Hunter brochure. The location of the Genoa track is reasonably clear.
