Own a Hunter legend 37, it has been recommended to put in a #3 jib sail track for racing. the problem is that it would require a track to be put in on the cabin top, there is a hard liner on the inside and it looks very difficult to put a support plate in. Has anybody done this on a hunter 37..... if so, how did you do it, or how would you recommend to do it. The idea is that in heavy air, with a #3 sail, the boat points very poorly and was measured out at 15 degree sail angle where it needs to be more like 10 degrees.

Adding tracks for a #3 is a very good idea. This addition will increase the pointing ability and actually increase your boat speed under heavy air conditions with much better control. I added these tracks to my 35.5 which is a smaller version of your boat. After locating the correct position on the cabin top, drill through holes using the tracks as templates. From inside using a hole saw, cut access holes in the headliner. This will give access to the back of the cabin top and allow you to insert large backing washers for the track. Cover the headliner holes with a strip of teak or plug the individual holes with sized plastic plugs.
