Genoa lead car

I'am preparing to do some minor changes for next year for better sailing and easy handling from the cockpit .
One of them is to change the current genoa car which is attach to a regular "T" track , the current one has a little pin with a ring on top that I can move the car back and for depend of the strength of the wind .That little ring is very annoying , and not always work fast enough , specially when you have strong winds.
My question is , any body has done this kind of work without changing the all system ( I mean track and car ) and also without spending to much money ? .

I saw an article in Sail magazine recently (within the last 2 months) that described a modification you may be able to make to allow the cars to travel with adjustment lines to keep them locked. Check it out!

Garhauer makes some nifty little sets of load-adjustible genoa lead cars with turning blocks that fit on your existing track; the track just needs to be long enough to accomdate them. They're not too expensive, check their website.

Garhauer system is probably as cheap as you can get for any quality and it would probably cost you $500 minimum.

I put a system on my boat a couple of years ago and loved it. They will walk you through measuring the track for proper fit. I am attaching the link but check with the store here on the site to see if they sell them, they sell some Garhauer gear.

yes Garhauer, love mine retrofitted to Schaefer T track. had for 4-5 years All the difference in the world being able to change from the cockpit under load

If you are sailing a US25 then the cheapest way to make it easy is to put a lanyard on the ring (a 4 to 6 inch line) to allow a handhold when pulling the pin up. Then if you want to position the car while under load you use your free hand to push down on the sheet in front of the car while you move the car to the new position. Or you tack or jibe and then set the car to the new position.
There are very nice systems available that will allow the moving of the cars from the cockpit but I found them to be worth more than my boat is worth.
