Genoa for O'Day 27

O’Day 25 Midland
I recently bought a 1979 O'Day 27 and so far love it. Sadly I have suffered a few sun-damage rips along the leech on my unknown age 150 Genoa which may be beyond repair (or cost prohibitive). I am pretty much an intermediate Lake Simcoe (Ontario) day sailor with weekly beer can races for fun. Do I need a 150 again or something smaller (hopefully used). I have managed the genoa no problem so far in various winds but wonder if I am over-powered. Thanks in advance.

A “new” sail will hold it shape better and sail faster than a baggy, tired old sail. Only you know what sort of normal winds you have and how the boat handles it. Do you reef the 150 at all (not sure if you have a furler).

On my 322, I have a 130 and I find that plenty, and often reef it if winds over 15 knots Or so. Was out this morning on Lake Michigan in 10-15 knots. I had a reef in the main and a reef in the Genoa.

It’s always something !

Good luck,

Greg
