Was looking at the Selden products, a GX top down furler and removable bowsprit. I have a 5 -7 year old gennaker (no wire luff) bought from Cruising Direct (North). Just wondering if anyone has used one of these older gennakers with the GX. The internet rep from North said the sail weren't necessarily made for the top down furlers and it may not work but he didn't know for sure. Thanks.

I would not think a wire luff would be required with these top down type furlers. I, too, am interested in what others have found out. I was doing some cursory investigating awhile ago and it seems that the existing sail would work. Had not looked at the Selden product specifically, but I had looked at the ProFurl product. I have a North gennaker with a sleeve and no sprit on my Beneteau 323 and don't use it very much because I have to go forward to hoist and douse it. As it is, I feel like I need a third person on the boat to be able to use it safely.

Scotty, I sent email to Selden. Will try to post when I hear back to let you know what they say.
Doug, I too don't use the sock & gennaker much for the same reasons you state so were are in the same boat (sorry). Being able to set things up at the dock is very appealing.

No

No wire is used and it the sail raps around the thurson line that is supplied with the unit.
I have the system and is all installed ready to be used but had to put on hold and up in NY until end of Sept but as soon as I get back to my boat I will be trying it out with help from some friends.
I have a Doyle UPC and it did rap around the furling system but have not had a chance to fly and use it yet.

Selden

If you go on the Selden site I am pretty sure they have video showing it being furleder in and out but doesn't say how the install is done.
The install was good with the paper work how to set it up but the Selden rep really explained how it is very important to make the thurson line very tight other wise I found out it will not furl proberly, after talking to the Selden rep and explained all that more my UPC did rap around well.
I have all info home in Fl.
