Can anyone suggest where I could find a small generator that runs on gas which I could place on my boat (on mooring). The smaller the better, thank you.

Picked up a 1000 watt unit this weekend

May not be your favorite store but Wal-mart had a sale on generators. I picked up a made in china 1000 watt unit for $135. It is 2-cycle gas, weighs about 50#s. Runs well, fairly quiet. It even has a D.C. outlet along with A.C. My intention is to leave it in the garage until needed on the boat or "knock on wood" a power outage.

Wal-Mart, yes indeed, a store I'm not a fan of however, that's a price I like! Thanks!

honda EU1000

I found a honda eu1000 on ebay new for 650.00. More expensive than the wal mart el cheapo, but it will last alot longer, lighter (29lbs), and quieter. I use it to run a 40 amp battery charger. it works great.

Generator

I bought a Generac 1850 watt a couple of years ago. Katrina put it under water so am now in the market for a replacement. One thing I learned. The gererac worked like a champ, but it was A. noisy and B. heavy. It was also fairl cheap compared to the Honda's. THe noise may not seem like a big deal, but believe me, after and hour or two of listening to one, you will be ready to heave a noisy generator over the side,

Try Yamaha EF1000iS

Check out this little Yamaha. EF1000IS We sell them where I work at Cummins shop in Edmonton. Canada Light, quiet, variable RPM, inverter functionality. It seems like it is just what the Doctor ordered. I own a Catalina 30 and had it in my mind to build an enclosure in stern locker next to my propane tank. I would run a little 12V cooling fan and make sure it is vented to the outside. I just need to run some of the details by a marine electrician type so I don't invite trouble. I would use it strictly to charge batteries when on the hook. Drop by any Yamaha dealer and ask them to start one up for you. I did not realise a generator could be so quiet. Fair winds. Hey Paul those chinese generators

are good for the price but 2 cycle engimes are usually noisy, high emmissions and high fuel consumption. If you are using the generator for 1/2 an hour that may not be a problem, but if you are using it for 6-7 hours to run AC while you sleep they are no bargains.

trade?

Anybody want a 3.5 kw 110 Volt diesel generator for a wind generator and 300 w of solar :) My friend says I would be nuts to do such a thing but the one in my boat isn't insulated that well (not enough room with the shallow lazs on the 376) so I hardly ever run it anyway.
