Generator

I am currently on a mooring with no access to electricity (other than our batteries). What do you need to do to put a generator onboard and what are the pros and cons. Thanks as always for your help and suggestions.

Most go with a wind generator and/or solar panells because they are quieter and cheaper too. But, a power generator does have it's advantages...can run 110 volt things such as AC and microwave and doesn't depend on the whether to cooperate. I have a 3.5k diesel generator and only run it when I have to but a wind generator is near the top of my list because I can't stand the noise my genorator produces.
