When I purchased my 1985 Hunter 34 it came equiped with a 3.5kw diesel generator. It is located on the starboard side in the rear lazerette. A very neat cut was made in the bulkhead of the rear lazerette and screwed back into place after installing the generator. The other day I was in the starboard lazerette (I can do that now that I have taken off 40 pounds just to do that.)and I found that the only thing holding up the generator is the partition at the near center of the boat and some fiberglass connecting the hull to the floor (deck) of the rear lazerette. Questions: 1. Does any one else have a generator in the rear lazerette? 2. Does any one have any idea how that fiberglass connection was made? 3. Any suggestions how to increase the support with out drilling holes in the hull and installing shelf angels? Thanks for any useful suggestions. Thanks also for any smart remarks that make me laugh.

Fabricate and glass in stringers

or wedges to create a proper bed that you can fasten too. Another approach would be to fasten the bed stingers (that match the contour of the hull) with good old Dupont 5200

I installed mine in the stb lazarette too

However, I have a 40.5 not a 34. But I personally installed a Westerbeke 5KW unit in the same place that you have yours. I did not cut any opening but used the standard opening of the lazarette. The original stringers were very small, only about 1.25" square, so under these stringers I placed a 2x4 and thru-bolted them to the bulkhead in the front and to the fiberglass transom in the rear. I also reinforced the floor both in thickness and with 2x4 cross members running fore and aft. I have some pix that I can email you if you send me a message from the HOW owners directory. Congrats on your ballast reduction. I need to do that also. They say a lighter boat sails faster....... Rich
