I have been looking at some generators to power my A/C unit. I have found some I can Mount to my engine in some industrial catalogs 30 amps 5000 watts is What one of them were I believe. Does anyone know of on that has the brackets and wiring harnness to go on my boat. It is a Hunter 34 with a yanmar 3gmf. Thanks Tim Welsh

It's not so simple to mount on your

engine. I installed an Aux. generator that was designed to run off the Yanmar aux.engine. The mount alone costs about $1600. It is a machined alum. mount. You to have to have a very precise mount so you don't ruin your engine. If you go to the link below you will see detailed explanation. You cannot simply install an industrial genset with a few brackets, according to my information and that from the website. However, you can form your own opinion. As one that has a 5k generator on my H34 on a lake about the size as Greers Ferry( I assume that is where your boat is relative to Conway), I found that I used the gen more on hot summer days than using it to anchor at night. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

Thanks for your input ron

Thanks for the link. I do have some people here in Conway with C&C machines, and I am pretty crafty. hopfully there will we some more input on this string about mounts. I'm sure it will be pretty pricy to build the mount. The Boat is now on Lake Ouachita. I purchased the boat on greers ferry and moved it to Ouachita. Much better lake in my opinion. You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the bracket by chance would you?

If you want to email me a fax number

I'll be glad to send you a copy of the spec. sheet. This is not a bracket, when you see it you might assume NASA made it. You also have to install new heavier duty motor mounts and completely re-adjust the different torgue that is placed on the entire engine configuration due to the addition. If you look in the Photo forum H34 you will see I am somewhat handy too. However, unless you want to order a new Yanmar caution is the name of the game. I think it is sort of "the cost benefit rule." I assume Mountain Harbor or what has a nice power cord and water at the slip. Just trying to relate my experience as to lake sailing and generator needs.

consider a Honda

I have a Legend 37 and use a Honda EU2000 to power the air conditioner. Cost less than $1000!

what size and type of a/c are you using

with the honda generator- do you know how many amps it will start?

honda starting amps

I don't have a good way to measure starting amps, not sure the transient response of my clamp on amp meter is fast enough. Steady state is about 13 amps. Believe air conditioner is 7500 BTU. Have to turn off the Honda electronic speed control because it's speed of response is not good enough, the generator will blow it's breaker. Have heard of a "hard start device" which is really a large capacitor, which you can parallel multiple units, and which I plan to try to see if I can start the air with electronic speed control on. This should lower rpm and therefore fuel consumption. At full throttle, I get about 5 hours per tank.

del-- thanks for

your input- i have a cruisair 12,000 btu and while it runs at 11.5 the tech specs say its starting amps are 26 so i guess that would mean the capacator you were talking about and a second unit for it to start if i understand correctly.- it's a pity there is not some way to start to it off the batteries or add the battery power to the generator for the start and then switch to the generator for use. thanks again for your input tr
