I have a Oceanis 411. I also have a honda eu2000i generator, which plugs into the stern shore power input socket. I am also fitted with a Zantrex 2500 inverter battery charger. I am experiencing problems when I connect the generator to the shore power socket and turn on the inverter, the generator cuts out the output side to the boat. Any ideas or similar experiences please.

Not sure why you drive an inverter with a generator. Their two outputs are bucking each other. Or are you just using the charger portion? That's why you shouldn't run the engine and use the battery charger at the same time. You'll lose amps that way. Why not run the AC outlets off the inverter- unless you need sine wave? As said, not clear why you're using the setup in this way? Using the generator to strickly run the batt charger?

Thanks Ron, the inverter when switched on recognizes AC power to it and the charger auto kicks in. the main engine is not running.The inverter does run the outlets . When we are not alongside we need the generator to replace shore power and it should , should it not help charge all the batteries and run the AC outlets as if it were connected to AC power shoreside.
Is this the factory installed 2500W inverter? Because if it is it connects only to the house DC battery, and provides AC power to port-side AC outlets only. The OEM inverter is not a battery charger. Shore power or your honda would only provide power to the starboard AC wiring.
Hmmm... the only thing that comes to mind if when the inverter looks for an imput voltage (from the gen) maybe the gen is at idle and not putting out enough amps to satisfy the inv, thus the inv shuts down? It might be a hassle to rev the gen when turning on the inv. But, yeah, you would think it would work. How much AC amps does the inv draw? When you say the gen "cuts out", i assume you mean trip the breaker?
Okay, read what has been said and re looked at things so your responses have been very helpful, I have found a fault on the link 2000 remote panel after all this. Having said that, my error was that because of the remote fault I was turning the inverter on manually, then the charger unit. As discussed this did not make sense.So yesterday I plugged the gen in and the inverter freedom 2500 charger recognized the AC power in and began charging the batteries and the gen ran the AC outlets.The inverter side was left off, on the remote that needs replacing now the Inverter and charger are managed individually and I don't have to climb in the locker like I do now. Ps the Honda generators are brilliant, it has an Eco button that automatically adjusts the rev out put for out put required then revs down accordingly
