I am looking at generators and bowled over by the price, especially installation. For the odd occasion I will need one I was figuring on using a portable, air cooled Honda and hooking it up through the shore power connections. Does anybody have any comments on this? John

Honda 2000eu is the cruiser's standart.
We have a 2000eu and it will run A/C or heater, battery charger, TV and DVD, and a refrigerator all at once. In the morning when making coffe (110 coffe pot)I'll raise the thermostat on the A/C. It costs just a few more dollars than the 1000eu but the difference in performance is serious. Will give you 7-8 hours run time on one tankful of gas on medium load. We sit it on the rail and plug it in to the shorepower inlet to use all our outlets and battery charger wired connections. We downsized from a 3000eu because of the weight and did not feel a change other than run time as the 3000 would give us 12 to 15 hours. They are very quiet for bein air cooled but in an anchorage as a courtesy we try to position ourselves downwind.

I just picked up the Coleman 1875 at the orange idiot for 199. It is about the size of a small cooler. I plan to give it a test to see how it will run the a/c, but it is quite, small, and makes a great footstool when not in use.

is what I use. I have a setup similar to LK's except for the A/C. The eu1000 is a great little generator, I am very happy with it. I also plug it directly into my shore power and charge the batteries with a 30 amp charger. Used it in the Sea of Cortez for a month, I would run the eu1000 for about 2 hours every 3 days to top off my house bank. I also have a 10 watt solar panel, but that only supplies about 5-10% of my 12 volt DC needs. Another nice feature is that I have a 29 pound very portable generator I can use off the boat.
