Generator advice....

Considering buying a generator to power my 16KW A/C. Problem is, budget or space (Hunter 31) won't allow a multi-thousand $ unit. So....what do you think about a Honda EU2000? This would nicely fit into the lazerette and could be lifted easily out to run on deck. The unit produces almost 17 amps, and that's what the A/C unit draws. I know this sounds like wishful thinking, but do you agree that this would be too much load on the generator? Otherwise, I must upgrade to the EU3000 and it weighs about 130 lbs. and I don't think it would fit in the lazerette. Anyone have and ideas? Thansk

Starting load

The gen set has to be able to handle the starting load and I do not think the 2K unit will handle that. The 3K might work you have to check the Lock rotor number(starting load) on the AC name plate and check with the genset mfgr. or borrow, rent one and try it first.

Sorry, I meant 16K BTU not watt, Hey Jim...

No kidding! That's encouraging. Think I'll rent (good idea RAD) one and give it a try. A friend told me he had good luck abating the noise by lifting slightly off the deck w/a halyard and tieing off side to side. Wonder how long it'll run on a gallon of gas? Thanks

We tried a Mermaid 16k unit

on a Honda 2000 that I was using last summer. Couldn't get the unit to start up. Let us know what you come up with.
