Hi - new to forum.

I have a MH15 (2018)- first and only owner. It sails in fresh water lake only. Last season it was in the water for several weeks continuously.

Now I have extensive peeling gelcoat areas. See a few representative photos attached.

What to do?

I thought boats were made to be in the water?

Thanks for any help

Welcome to the forum!!

Ouch!!.............never seen gelcoat chip like that, sometimes it will crack. Is it that paint vs. gelcoat?

Actually not sure. I bought it new from the factory…..

I wrote to the fella at MH and sent the pics. Didn’t hear back yet but I expect to.

Looks like paint peeling to me too. I would be looking to a warrantee repair ASAP. I wouldn't do any DIY option until the warrantee situation is worked out.

Thanks- I presume that if it’s paint it would be a somewhat easier fix.

still no replay from Marlow Hunter but only inquired on Friday

Phone call would be my choice. Even if the warranty has expired, they should fix it... because that's some very shabby work. That's not gel coat btw. Looks like peeling house paint. Or paint that was applied with no primer.

When David Marlowe purchased hunter from bankruptcy, the very first thing Marlow did that he was discontinuing dealer financing which the majority of dealers relied on
He essentially lost most of the dealers.

a former customer bought a new larger Marlow Hunter sailboat upset with warranty called me as to what to do. Sadly, I could offer him no help.
First, warranty period is only one year ending in 2019. However, a new company is building pontoon boats under a different name but will only build several of the Marlow hunter daysailors upon request. I doubt you will get any help.

I will send a private email to the poster

With Dave’s comments, I think I would be sanding down the bottom, an applying a 2-part epoxy bottom paint (a few coats) and call it a day.

Thanks everyone- disappointing to hear that “Crazy Dave” doesn’t think I will get any satisfaction from the manufacturer.

I will call them tomorrow and in the meantime I’ll try to locate someone who could sand and paint it for me. Does anyone here happen to know of a shop around here -In PA- Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, Reading, Allentown?

thanks again
