I need to locate a source of gelcoat for the off white- to - vanilla colored O'Day hull. I have an '84 39'.

Check with Rudy on that gelcoat. I've bought gelcoat of him at his store in Assonet years back and he had a drum full and poured me what I needed on the white color. He's still having the O'Day Widgeon sailboats built for him by Joe Deponte in Bristol RI, so I know that they have this Gelcoat. If he does have it, I think that he can give you a better price on it. It's worth a shot.
