I own a 1987 Hunter 31 equipped with a Yanmar 20GM FWC engine and an Edson pedestal/gear and throttle levers. This past summer I broke both my throttle cable and gear shift cable. Do you know of any supplier and their address where I may order new ones.

Couple of Suggestions

Any of the big marine retailers will make them to order and Edson also has cables. Rick D.

HI JERRY, YOU NEED TO DO...

the following: 1. Contact Hunter (800/771-5556) for the cable length for each cable that you need. 2. Purchase each made-to-length cable from West Marine (westmarine.com for online shopping). These cables (national brand...not Edson) are much less than from Edson, but good quality. I replaced the broken shifter cable on our P42 this summer. I'm assuming that the clevis on each end of the cable is still in good condition and reusable. These thread on to the end of the cable. I wrote and article a few months ago about this project, which you can find in the archives. The name of the cable manufacturer is in the article. Hope this helps. Good luck. Terry

HI JERRY, THE CABLE BRAND IS TELEFLEX...

You might want to compare WM's price with Edson's. At the time Hunter told me they used mostly Teleflex cables for their boats. I paid $54 for a nine foot cable and I think Edson's was $60+ plus shipping. Check the archives under subject, "Shifter cable". Terry

Take your cables out and measure them. I believe it is the 3300 series cables and you can get them anywhere. ASk the How Chandlrey. One thing to make sure is not to bend them too tight when reinstalling and put the rubber caps back on and it is good to squirt some lubricate down the cables once or twice a year Crazy Dave Condon
