Hoping someone with an answer out there. I purchased a 1984 O'Day 34 back in May. We have only had a chance to take her out for 3, 4 night overnighters around the Sanibel Island area. Boat sailed and ran great. We are out of state owners so we do not get a chance to spend a lot of work on time, I do the required and a little more maintenance. Coming back from spending 3 nights out my engine gauges stopped working, all at once. I when getting back to the dock looked at the wiring diagram and being 30 years old there is wiring not used, but not removed still there. I have no problems with any other electrical items, lights, refridgerator, hot water heater, etc.Is any of the power that powers the gauges come from the control panel in the cabin that has all the breakers and fuses, or is it powered directly from the starter ? Any help would be appreciated. I also checking while in the lower bowels could see that one of the steering cable had 2 or 3 strands of cable that had wore. I called Edson and was advised to replace the whole chain and both cables as a preventative measure. Has anyone done this ? I am pretty capable, I just don't know if this besides working in that small area would be a huge job( I am 6'5" and pushing 300 pounds so I don't believe I could do it all from the rear berth>. Just don't have a huge sum to pay a mechanic and If I lived there and spent more than 2 weeks every few months at the boat it would not be a problem. Thanks, Frank
