Gordon, I have the original manual for my YSE12. It says that in cold weather a few drops of gasoline down the intake will aid in starting. There is even an opening in the intake tube for it. Is this okay, or better not try it? Engine is hard to start but usually kicks over after about 5 minutes. Thanks, Sean

gasoline?

I don't pretend to be a expert but i never heard of using gasoline to help start a diesel. Some poeple used gas to "cut" the fuel so that it flowed better but only when bitter cold (below freezing) The intake you are refering to is most likely for ETHER. You can use ehter for cold weather starts but beware use it very gingerly, and my experience with ether is that engines become addicted to it. Again use with caution!

YSE12 cold starts.

Yes, there is a gasoline input plug on the intake manifold and that is what Yanmar said to use. I have never tried it personally. I am always concerned when there is open gasoline in the bilge of a sailboat. I guess that jucicious use of a syringe could preclud problems. You shoud shy away from ether. The ether addiction to which Pete refers is probably the result of a cracked compression ring or a cracked piston caused by the earlier use of ether. If you do try the gasoline, please post your results.

yse 12 manual

Sean I also have a YSE12, but no manual. Is it very long, and would you be able to copy it and e-mail the copy (I would pay the cost of course). I know this is a HUGE request, if it is too much I will understand. I just don't know where to get one. Barry e-mail teachgov1@aol.com
