Precision P28 Lake Ouachita
I am needing to rebed several stanchions on my P28 and the first one I did still leaks. I used plenty of compound but I think the leak is around the bolts that secure the stanchion base to the deck. I want to do this just once because it takes 2 people to RR the hardware.

Has anyone tried using a gasket material is lieu of bedding compound? If this is feasible maybe I could punch holes for the bolts smaller in size than the fasteners and the gasket would seal better than compound that just gets pushed out when the bolts are inserted?

What is compound? I assume that this was caulking. As Scotty mentioned use butyl and follow Mainsails technique.

That is an incredibly simple method to cure a re-occuring problem I have had with my swim ladder . Thanks for that Main Sail and Scotty.

I rebedded all my hardware and trim with butyl tape from Mainsail and beveled all holes (as in the article) in Spring of 2011 and my boat has been dry ever since.
Except when I leave the Becksons open during a rain....

SA: I don't believe that there is any such thing as 5300, probably 4200.

Save yourself time, money and leaks by using butyl. Follow Mainesails method for counter sinking the holes and you will be a happy camper (boater).
