I am about to mount Kato davits for the first time. I have read that hardware should be mounted using bedding compound, and the bolts only made finger tight initially until the compound cures. Later you can fully tighten the bolts and the cured compound acts like a gasket. However, I have a friend who says that for something like davits which take some strain this can still leak. He has found it necessary to use a home-made rubber or neoprene gasket along with the compound. Has anyone else found this to be true and what is the best gasket material to be used? I would think that too thick of a gasket would create its own set of problems as there could be too much flex. Also, I would assume that if you were using the gasket material you would tighten the bolts firmly the first time because the gasket provides the flex needed. Thanks.
