Hello I am a new owner of an O'Day 26. At some point the wall of the gas tank locker (aft port side) was replaced. Someone told me it was originally a removable piece of teak plywood. Does anyone know the measurements of this part? The person who changed it out to plastic made it too small so the seat drops when you sit on it. Thank you

One of the guys in my yacht club owns an 86 O'Day 26 keel centerboard sloop with an outboard on the stern, for power. He was having the same problem as I was in getting a 6 gallon plastic gas tank to fit in his gas locker. The 3 gal. plastic would fit, and the metal 6 gal. gas tank would go, but I was able to find a plastic 6 gal. made by dura-tank, I think, that would fit in mine. One day he was inquiring about my tank at the dock, so I took mine out and let him stick it in his locker to see if it would fit, and it did. So he went out and bought one. Evidently, these Dura-Tanks are an OMC product that comes with Johnson and Evinrude Outboards. So in the final analysis, my O'Day 222 and his OD 26 probably have the same size gas lockers, but his was built very different than mine. I don't like metal gas tanks because they have a tendency to rust and leak, and I'll never own another one for that reason. My suggestion to you is to keep that in mind when you rebuild the gas locker. I'd just go ahead and rebuild it the way you think that it ought to be, but make it large enough so that you can fit a 6 gal. plastic gas tank, and rig the seat boards so that they won't fall through. One of the biggest pleasures that I've got out of owning my O'Day, was doing the modifications on it. The things that I felt that it needed, to make it easier to sail and use, and it all starts with an idea. Most of the time they were someone else's idea, but if I liked it, I used it, and most of the time, improved on it. Good luck with that! Joe

I have a 1985 -26 and my seat depth is controlled by the lid which rests on the tapered sides on the compartment. The glass pannel on the front is just mounted with brackets top and bottom. Not sure why your seat is dropping down with weight? What year is your 26?
