Hey folks

With the Oceanis 31 (and 34 and 37 I think) the gas tanks for the galley stove are beside the life raft area - This is a bit of a pain to get to every time you want to turn on and off the stove.

My question for the group is this, with the gas shut off directly below the stove, is it required/common practice to shut off the gas at the source (tanks in the cockpit) every time? The previous owner kept the gas on at the tanks and used the cabin shut off as regular practice ....I like the ease of use with his routine , but want to ensure its safe too.

Many thx!

Best practice is to always shut off the gas at the tanks, that is the safest.

Our Beneteau 423 has a 12 volt solenoid valve at the propane locker that allows remote shutoff. We never close the tank valves manually. We always shut off the solenoid at the DC panel. It your model does not have a gas solenoid it could easily be fitted.

The propane solenoids work great. However if you leave the boat for long periods it is recommended to shut off the tank at the valve. A good reference is "Propane Systems" by Don Casey. I recommend reading it.

Ditto on the solenoid. Turn off the solenoid while burner flame is still lit, then turn off burner. Burns off all gas in the line.

However if you leave the boat for long periods it is recommended to shut off the tank at the valve.
Ditto on this practice as well.
