Gas Burner-Microwave Oven Combo?

Seasons greetings.

I am told that there are manufactures who make gimbaled gas burner-microwave combo ovens. If anybody has knowledge about them please pass on some info + comments.

We never use the oven so we figure that we could replace ours with a stove that has a microwave built in.

Also if we locate one, we will then have a slightly used 2 burner stove for sale.

Seems like for a hundred bucks you could just get a microwave if you have somewhere to put it, but no doubt you've thought it thru. The only person I know who has the stove/micrio would probably be glad to trade you, but he's on his way to the islands. He's not happy with it. Lacking an oven like you have- and wishing they had gotten it on thier new boat- they got a table-top convection oven.

I agree with Ron, yet again ;). We never used our oven for many years, but one day a friend came on a short cruise and made scones. Lovely way to start the day. Plus, turns out to be a nice cabin warmer. I know you're an experienced sailor, but also think of resale value, since some folks don't have inverters to run the microwave when not connected to shorepower.

I'll keep the dough in my pocket.

Maybe make some scones one day while at anchor.

Stu, you silver-tongue devil, you. In the heat of the summer on the Chesapeake Bay we'd just as soon have food that does not need the heat of the propane. Heats the cabins even more. However, in the cooler spring and fall, I encourage crew to bring food that needs cooking so as to help heat up the cabin.

Summertime is when you use the canned meat that you put this winter to make salads. It takes 10 minutes to cook pasta and that is the basis for many hot or cold meals. I don't have a microwave cooker at home and certainly don't want one on the boat.

Good advice.

Hey Ross, how say you take the Studebaker out and get us a couple of Frankiln wood stoves for our boats. I hear there is nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread baked over a wood fire. Then we could fire up the Crosley and listen to Amos and Andy.

Considering the counter space and the fact that a generator is probably needed to run the microwave if planning to cruise very much stick with the propane oven or you will be forced to use a toaster oven.
I have been crusing since october third and I could easily find a place for a microwave but there is no substitute for the oven!

Well you can't bake bread in a microwave oven. But I have owned both a Studebaker and a Hudson. Mother had a hybrid stove on the farm when I was a kid. Wood fires in the winter and propane in the summer. The bread tasted just as good from the oven regardless of the heat.
Try getting a nicely browned roast chicken from a microwave or a batch of cookies.
