Right you are, Scott

I'd received an email that the Sealth was assisting some boat that had run aground, but hadn't heard it was a sailboat. It's amazing how these rocks move from place to place to fool unsuspecting skippers who are trusting in the charts. Cause of grounding? Somebody wasn't paying attention. Wasp Passage ate classic yacht Malibu

Seems like almost yesterday when the newly restored classic 100-ft yacht "Malibu" owned by Windermere Real estate or the Foss Tug Company family ran around also in Wasp Passage. [The Times article said Windermere but other news accounts I think said Foss but maybe Foss was the previous owner???]. She wasn't so lucky, though, an was nearly totaled. As I remember the news accounts, the Captain on board the Malibu apparently didn't tip-toe through this rock-strewn passage and instead steamed through. The Malibu was holed and partially sank. "Historic wooden yacht runs aground in San Juans; may be declared a total loss", link to article in the Seattle Times: http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20020710&slug=yacht10m The weather was clear and the seas were calm. The "Malibu", 2nd restoration, article on Classic Yacht www.classicyacht.org; link to article: http://www.classicyacht.org/aboutclassics/images/maliburepairs.jpg You'd think that the "Adventuress", being a local boat, would have remembered what happened to the "Malibu" and would have taken extra care or, better yet, avoided the passage all together. In the old days the British Admiralty would court martial a Captain of a ship if it ran aground. That is what happened to the Captain who was one of Captain Cooks officers on his voyage to the Northwest. His ship ran aground in the really shallow sea off Estonia and Latvia.

Ya know John, I think the U.S. Navy will do much the same to a Capt.

Court Marshall that is. In any case, their career is over. Remember the sub that ran aground on the north end of Vashon? Ouch! How do you explain that to the Navy??? Then there was the boat that slammed into an undersea mountain west of Hawaii a few years ago. Killed a crewman in the torpedo room. He was using an old chart I heard. What's that chart doing aboard? How do you explain running into dirt? It's not like doing a 'crash' surface breech and coming up under a Japanese fishing boat. Right?
