I just purchased a new Garmin GPSMAP 76. I downloading and installed GARMIN GPSMAP76 Software Upgrade Version 3.41 to my GPS. This unit has a functional problem that will not allow it to generate Routes in accordance with the owners manual, page 48, paragraphs #1 & 2. These paragraphs state, "Start a new Route page. Highlight the blank route entry line. Hit the menu button and select Use Map. Place the Map Pointer on a Waypoint/Map Feature and press enter twice. The GPSMAP 76 will store that location only to the new route using the feature name as a reference. These points are not stored in the User Waypoint List." My GPSMAP 76 will only allow me to enter 2 lines of route data using this technique. Additional lines can only be completed by first using the Map Page and Map Pointer to identify a Waypoint/Map Feature and add that point to the User Waypoint List. This operation takes additional time to generate a New Route, does not comply with the owners manual instructions and eliminates a capability that was an important reason for my purchase of the Garmin GPSMAP 76 unit. Garmin Tech Service confirmed via a new unit that the problem exists and will investigate and reply soon. Does anyone have the same problem and if so was Garmin contacted and what was there reply? Thanks.
