I just purchased a Garmin 3205 GPS. When I purchased my 31, it came with a small GPS that was on a swing arm in the cabin, but it's too far away to be useful from the helm. I want to mount the new GPS at the helm but with the wind/speed/depth instrumentation, it's getting a bit busy on the pedestal. Has anyone else mounted a GPS of this size at the helm? If so, any suggestion as to how to do it?

Garmin installation

I just had one mounted on my 35.5. Garmin 498 which appears to be about the same size although yours may be a little wider. Edson makes a swing arm that mounts on the rails of the pedestal and will swing out of the way to put the helm cover on. You can turn the GPS to the side and tilt it up or down if you're not directly behind the helm. I really like this arrangement, plus I can take the GPS off and lock it below or take it home when not on the boat.

GPS at Helm

I used the "swing away" arm on my 1987 H31 to mount my RayMarine SL70C. Mounted th arm on the Starboard Side pedistal post. I do remove it after use, so as it is no stolen. Works good for me. While someelse is at the helm, I can swing it to face the starboard cockpit seat and program at easily. Also when needed someone else can watch the GPS and relay needed info while another is watching the helm.
