I was shopping for a GPS and after much too much comparisons and searches I thought I would get the Garmin etrex venture GPS as it seems to give the most forthe money. Anyone out there that has one please stop me if I am making a mistake. I would be using it on the Gulf Coast. My friend gve me a car radio and two speakers for the boat. How do you wire this damn thing. I have a female connector in the back in one of two male slots in the back, seven wires coming out of the back of the female connector. These two question are a stretch, but if there is smeone out there that can help it would be appreciated. Waiting with soldering gun in hand and blank look on face. Bud

Check-out the Garmin 72 at around $135 at Amazon.com. You'll be impressed. Read the owner reviews.

I believe...

...your leads should be as follows: 1 lead right speaker + 1 lead left speaker + 1 lead right speaker - 1 lead left speaker - 1 lead "always on" power (usually connectd straight to battery to retiain stations) 1 lead ground 1 lead "sometime on" power (usually connected through keyed switch on car) Unless your speaker wires out are actually two wires together... if that is the case then you would have front and rear speaker wires.

Jimbo, I looked at the 72

I see what you mean. Itwould be nice to have the moon and tides, the trade off is no map. The etrex venture has map abilty but I could not see any moon and tides. Ten dollars diff in price. Regard Bud

Car Stereo

Bud, Following Darren's post, The female port on the back of the stereo is for the antenna. We bought a short stubby one and it just sits on the shelf in the V-berth and seems to do just fine there. No need to drill holes to mount it. The Speakers wires should be kind of stuck together part of the way down. One wire will have a dark colored stripe on it when you seperate the two. As long as you do both speakers the same, ie stripes to the same terminal on either speaker, you should be fine. If you turn it on and nothing happens, turn it off right away and switch the wires on one speaker. I ran my stereo to a switch on my panel so it does not drain the battery when I am gone, so I took the sometimes hot (red) and the always hot (blue in my case) and twisted them together on the power from the panel. I loose the presets on the radio every time I switch it off, but the stereo doesn't drain the battery when I am away either... Black is obviously ground. Good Luck, Clayton s/v Walkabout
