Garmin app on Ipad

Anybody out there using the Garmin's marine App on their Ipad or Iphone?

I thought I would look into it despite the fact that it is highly touted by Jeff Siegal. One lousy review on the appstore, and I can't find a way to buy the charts. The app is free, Active Captain is free, but no charts.

Install the app first and then you buy the charts from it. Go into settings.

I have it but have not yet used it. I have an iPad and a Nexus 10 android and I am hoping that they will have an android version this spring. I will but charts then.

I've been using it for a few weeks on a new Ipad. I also have Navionics on the Ipad. Both are good but I like the Garmin a little better:

-- Ative Captain support is well done. Much better than some others. A minor gripe is that the the icons are a little big and clutter the display a bit when zoomed out. But Navionics doesn't have Active Captain at all.

-- I find the Garmin charts a little more legible than the Navionics on the Ipad

-- The tides and current support is better

-- It seems a little faster than Navionics but both are quite fast.

-- The route building is the easiest I've seen on any chartplotter but, again, they should make the route graphics a little smaller.

-- Depending on your cruising area, the charts are inexpensive - I think it was $40 for both US and Canadian coasts, inland waters, Bahamas, Caribbean, Central America and part of South America. They have slightly cheaper options to buy less area.
