Can anyone advise on whether this unit ($300 at West, on sale) is suitable for the Vega?Nicholas Walsh

Looks like a 'cute' little unit to keep in your pocket when you are hiking in the woods but the display is a bit small (1 & a half inches x 2 inches) to be much good for serious marine use. (Just my humble opinion!)

I have an older GPSMAP 76 which I bought about 5 years ago. The CX
seems to be a color version with a card slot. I love my 76, as it's
tough, completely portable, and easy on batteries. I have it mounted
in the cabin on a swivel RAM mount, connected to the boat for power,
and connected to my laptop with chart program.

One great thing about sailing in US waters: all the digital charts
are free and can be downloaded from NOAA. There is also a very good
free chart program that will run on a laptop called SEACLEAR,
available for download at SeaClear GPS Navigation Software

I use a program called MemoryMap, Navigation App for Hiking & Boating | iPhone Android Windows | Memory Map

It sure takes the guess work out of wondering exactly where you are!
