Normally, I don't bother discussing marine products here - I leave that to the maintenance forums - but there is thread about Garhauer now on the Catalina forum concerning Garhauer's warranty work. If you check out the thread you'll find their product warranty is beyond anything you'll get from any other marine company.
When I lived in So Ca I sold and installed their products. I also "test drove" some of their stuff and the good part about that was I got to keep the stuff after the test was over.
The Garhauer family is one of the most ethical families I've ever met.
I could never afford a spot at the Long Beach or San Fran boat shows. Garhauer gave me a free spot at the end of their table to sell my books and charts. The great part about that was I was able to demonstrate how their stuff made sail trim easy and efficient, which help them sell their product.
At the end of the shows, if you can believe this, Garhauer always tried to pay me for my efforts!! I never accepted any payment because I would not be at the shows without them. One time when I got home and opened my bag I found they had slipped in a beautiful backstay adjuster without me knowing it. I don't even use a backstay adjuster but it sure looks good attached to my backstay.
I wonder if Harken would treat me the way Garhauer does? Think about that the next time you buy a marine product. Another company that is the equal of Garhauer is the site you're on now - sailboatowners.com. Out of consideration for service they provide us free of charge you should check their ship store first for marine products.
Without sailboat owners.com you sailors and I would be talking to ourselves!!
