I need to rebuild the galley to accomadate a small microwave. What type of wood is on the face of the plywood? Doesn't look like teak.

you want to use a marine wood.

i have the same boat, i tried to replace the floor boards once with regular plywood to match the bboat but they bent from the humidity.

Could be several different types

I believe the plywood on the galley slide compartment is mahogany or teak. My boat is mostly teak, but some of the trim is cherry. It is very possible Hunter trimmed out their boats with many different hardwoods depending on availability and cost. If you use mahogany, keep in mind different types are very different colors. Mahogany or Cherry

Lee, I agree with Ward, My '85 has a solid mahogany galley but the settee sides are marine plywood with a cherry veneer. I think any mahogony or cheery will do but I would even try stained marine plywood depending on how finished you want it to look. /Chuck '85 H23 Windsongs

mahogany is a fantastic wood to use...

urethane it w/ a semi-gloss and it will look like a piece of furniture. I have a 23 foor sailboat that I used mahogany on to build a couple of small transom steps. They made it much easier to board from the dinghy. They stood up to salt water...no problem !

Definitely Cherry

I think the galley on my '85 is marine grade plywood with a cherry veneer. I would suggest, that if you choose a solid wood go for mahogony. Otherwise get a marine-grade plywood and apply a cherry stain but don't varnish over top. Do a couple stain tests to a get a close match with the present interior. By the way, the original soles of the cabin are a mixture of holly and teak plywood. Just about anything else will warp if wet.
