Galley ventilation / exhaust

Has anyone done a modification for exhausting cooking smoke from the galley, and would you mind sharing your photos? No one wants to smell last week's fish for the remainder of the cruise. Our Catalina, and many other production boats, have terrible venting, and ours just has an opening port somewhere near the stove. I was thinking of adding either a small 12-volt fan (computer vent fan?) mounted in that port, or even rigging an in-line bilge blower with 3-inch vent hose to get nearer the stove. I've searched various forums, but if you've posted on this, please give me a link.

on our nauticat , we mounted a caframo fan on the wall opposite the stove to blow cooking fumes out the port . the caframos are hinged to the mounting bracket to be reversible so when we want it can blow into the cabin/galley area. the amp draw is very low so you can wire into the same 12 v that serves your lights.

I installed a 2 speed fan, from S/V Hotwire, in a galley port that is located directly above the stove. It looks like a computer fan but much more robust and hermetically sealed for the marine environment. The fan comes with several choices for mounting. I mounted the fan between 2 pieces of scrape wood cut to size and epoxied both sides to weatherproof. It fits perfectly into the galley port and locks in place with the existing port latches. This makes the fan much more efficient as it is exhausting the air directly to the outside. A couple of side benefits in our boat is it fits in the all the other opening ports and it can be turned around so that it blows air, for example, into the aft cabin where we sleep.

Over a decade ago I installed two "wind powered" ventilators on our boat. One near the galley and the other across from it in the head.
Beckson Vent-o-Mate with the stainless cover plate. Work without power or batteries, 24/7. Easy to close from inside in heavy spray conditions (rarely). Great product. :)

Installed 2 5" computer fans (110V) on a piece of Plexi the same thickness and shape as the port. Plug it into the outlet and it pushes out all the steam and odor while cooking. You can open any other hatch or hatches to match the air flow and to clear from a desired direction. It's about an hours worth of work and less than 40 bucks invested.
