Galley sink project

The other project I got started on was replacing my galley sink and faucet. I mentioned before that we really don't like a double basin because they are too small for good function. It was very difficult to find a sink that came close enough to fit. I also questioned the black sink as others in the forum also questioned it. BTW, Sue did not like black, either. But, my choice was made because I simply could not find another basin to fit and the only option for this basin was black. I liked the black sink, so I guess I got what I wanted! I found a matching black faucet to go with it.

I had to expand the size of the cutout. The new basin is a bit larger than the combined area of the old one. But the flange is narrower. It's too bad that the corners don't have a nice radius, but I can live with this. The overall footprint is just slightly smaller in width but front-to-back is about an inch greater so I have to but a new hole for the faucet. It will fit as I already checked that dimension out. The new edges of the cutout expose the wood core so I probably seal the edges with something that I can brush on. I think I will need to secure the plumbing with the faucet before final installation of the sink.

The sink is about 1" less deep than the old ones, which I think I will like. There was no need for a 9-1/2" deep sink

Seems like you ended up covering the original hole for the faucet? How are you going to mount the new faucet?

Nice looking sink!

They provide a plate adaptor that could cover the hole but I don't like the looks of it. I'll simply cut a new hole but I haven't determined exactly where to place it. The old hole isn't perfectly centered. Besides, there could still be some gaps left at the edge of the basin. I'm thinking that I may cut some material from the scrap that was cut out and fashion a hole filler that may not look too bad if i can get it to fit snugly enough.

Still to be determined. I may have to fashion some kind of attractive pedestal to cover the gap and mount the faucet.

Maybe you could shape a pedestal out of a piece of black Star Board.
