Galley foot pump

I am trying to undertand the exact operation of the foot pump found in a 1989 Catalina 30. I know it draws in seawater for dishwashing etc. When I tried mine, the water came up through the drains of both galley sinks. Is this correct? If not how should it be plumbed. Also, any suggestions for a head replacement for this model. I currently have a Wilcox-Crittenden, and after checking the prices for a repair kit I might as well replace the entire unit as well as the hoses. Also, since I cannot dump overboard anymore is ther any reason to leave the macerator pump in place

On my 1984 C 30 under the sink there is a seacock plumbed to the foot pump and the sink which must be open to get raw water in the sink. Right next to it is the seacock for the sink drains. Sounds like someone crossed plumbed your hoses and hooked the drain to the pump. Should be an easy fix.Bob

I'm not sure..

I have a ,88 c-30 mark II and my foot pump is used to drain the ice box. When I pump it, the water does back up into the sink a little, so I stop and let it drain out the seacock. The foot pump is facing the ice box. I'm glad I have it because it makes it easy to drain. I guess you can plumb the pump anyway you want. I know I would not want to wash my dishes in the sea water of Boston harbor!

Foot pump

On my 83 Catalina 30 the foot pump intake hose is teed just above the seacock for the seawater intake for the engine cooling. The two sink drains connect to each other and then out through the thru hull located approximately under the inboard sink. Last weekend I discovered that the old gate valve which was inline in the drain hose just below where both drains conect to become one just turned and turned and the gate was broken in the closed position. I removed the gate valve completely and replaced all the hoses and clamps as required. When I want the sinks to drain I open the plastic valve at the thru hull and close it after use as I do all my valves connected to thru hulls. I also store my engine key on the handle of the valve for the seawater intake so I don't forget to open it prior to starting the engine.
