The PO did a nice installation of some instruments on the outer wall between the galley and the cockpit above the starboard cockpit seat. On the galley side they installed a dropdown door to accesses the instrument wiring. I am going to move those instruments to a pod on the pedestal guard and will be left with a 14" X 5" hole. I was thinking of making a bad weather pass through from the galley to the cockpit so hot drinks could be passed to the unlucky stiff on watch or at the helm without having to remove any hatchboards. On the outside I was thinking of fold down starboard tray using the stainless piano hinge that is now on the inside access door. The hinge could be bolted to a starboard frame sealed to the outside of the hole, The bolts would go through the frame and headliner to a backer board inside. [Of course the hollow around the hole will have to be filled and strengthened.] The problem wit this design is that the access door needs a gasket of some kind to seal when closed, and you can't really stick anything to starboard. I suppose I could do away with the frame and just attach some kind of gasket directly to the fiberglass against which the tray would seal when closed.
The inside would be a lexan cover that slides in a track rather than the current door. It's right over the sink at forehead height so a protruding door is a hazard that was not a problem when the door was opened only to access the wiring.
Holes in boats scare me so I may be making this more complicated than necessary?
