FW: Lines led aft

Here are some pics of the arrangement on Mystic Rose. I can't take
credit for this work. One of the previous owners did it. Going sailing
again tomorrow up on beautiful Georgian Bay :). Cheers, Trev (V2915)

Trevor,
If you get a chance, could you post the photos to the Yahoo website?

Thanks,
Peter

Peter, I tried to post them under the photo section under a new file
called Mystic Rose. Is there a delay between posting and being able to
access them ? Maybe the moderator has to approve them or something.

Hi Trevor,
Your album is listed as "Private". Maybe that has something to do with it? Most of the others are "Group". ... Just a thought.

Peter, I didn't install this set-up. A previous owner did. It must
have cost a fair bit, but it really works like a dream, I must say.

Sorry Jack, the guy I bought it from really didn't do anything to the
boat. All modifications were done by the owner before him. There is no
indication on the collar who made it. It is custom work, by the looks
of it. Trev (v2915)

Trev,

Looks very nice. Do happen to know where the previous owner had the
collar for the mast made?

Hi all. Just back from a very wet and breezy morning on L Derg (Irish
inland lake) where my boat Breakaway lives.

As part of the pre-liftout drill I pumped out the engine oil, used a
filter wrench to unscrew the old filter, replaced the filter, poured in
3 litres or so of oil and ran the engine to make sure no leaks.

It is very hard to get access to the oil filter, I lie on the
companionway facing aft and leaning down into the engine space (with
cockpit sole removed of course) can just about get the filter wrench
forward to the oil filter.

I removed the air filter first as otherwise almost impossible.

Any tips or is it just a p.i.t.a. job?

Thanks

John,
I have a lot of room aft of the motor in the bay (beneath the cockpit). I usually just sit in there, after removing the air filter, in as awkward a position as I can contort myself, and use whatever leverage I don't have to unscrew the filter. I keep thinking that I should try to store some more stuff down there to make it just a little more unpleasant.

Best of luck!

Hi.:
I just slide out the stairs and everthing is right in front of me. Though I do also take the bottom of the cockpit out to grease the stuffing box and the check the oil in the transmission- all together a half hour job.

I have trouble too.
Maybe there is a way of gluing on something before you install the filter so that removal will be easier next time.??r

Hi John,

the short answer is it's a pita job - even worse than on my old BMW motorbike and that's bad enough.

Nowadays I just bite the bullet and remove the dynostart and airfilter, do the job and re-install them again; with practice it probably only takes five minutes work at either end of the actual filter change and makes the filter change - using a chain wrench - a two-minute, expletive free exercise.

Trev;

Great photos; thanks.

Can you tell us what each line is for?

And, do you like the order of them, and the location of the winches?

Patrick, looking at pic #3 right to left:

Red = Spin Halyard

White/Red = jib halyard

White = Main sheet

Red/White = Boom vang

White = reefing line (affixed to second reef point in main sail - need
another line for first reef)

Green = Main Halyard

Winches positions are offset to line up with the quikstops etc. It
works beautifully.

Hope this helps.

Trev (V2915)

Trev;

Thanks; just what I needed.

Can you tell me how the wood underneath the winches and quickstops is attached to the deck?

Trev, I am also interested in how you attached the wood. Did you use something on the underside of the fiberglass, as well as the wood beneath the winches?

Thanks,
Jack
