I am looking to purchase the Furuno Radar/Chartplotter 1732C serise and I am looking for your opinions on the two chartplotter options that they offer: "Navionics" versus the "C-Map NT"? Also, any pros and cons of Furuno versus other brands (Raymarine, JRC, etc.) Thanks! -Jim- s/v Forever

As much as I have used Raymarine in their various names over the years, I prefer the Furuno interface and their connectivity. The advantage for Raymarine is that you can repeat the instument info in data boxes below if you have a repeater or that is where you mount the plotter. I have that option but really don't find it particularily useful. I have used C-Maps for years and am satisfied with them but have no real comparison. Good luck, it's all good gear and differences amount to preferences. Rick D.

C-map or...?

We installed the Raymarine RC72 combo radar and chartplotter at the helm. C-map was recommended and after 2 years of sailing with it, we haven't found any downside. You might look at the Lowrance units. From a demo which was given to us, it looks like it has great features. Like the earlier reply stated, it's probably just a preference.
