thanks for the help. i pulled off the old unit and managed to find the name on it. shurflo. keyworded it and after scrolling down walla, there was the unit. an inline check valve. i replaced it with a pvc check valve i purchased at the plumbing supply and it works just fine. thanks for the detail too.
