Furling type

Have a 30' 1986 Ticon with roller furling. Unknown brand. Unit has a solid tube, no headstay, drum has a 3 finger cage. Sail is pulled up and halyard must be released in order to furl sail. The halyard sleeve has a clip on it to lock into the top bearing assembly.
Anyone seen one of these? Boat info said it could be a Streamstay or Hood, but neither of these look like mine.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Could it be that the bearings simply need replaced?

This is common. It leads to the need to release halyard tension to furl (though that is never a bad idea). My expereince, with a differnt model:

You can probably take just the drum portion home to figure out the parts and replacement procedure.

Curious, what will you do if you learn the model and mfg.? Probably not a Streamstay despite the solid rod. I think they all had halyard swivels and a four spoke drum. As mentioned if it is just a bearing problem you can likely lube or replace. But other parts are probably not available. I am about to replace my '79 Hyde Streamstay. After all these years I am ready for a forestay under the furler. I always felt my drum was too small for the size of the boat and sail. Yet it still furls thirty-one years later.

Just wanted to know who made it. I'll pull bearings and take to local bearing shop for replacement, lots cheaper this way. I've done this before so I know it works.

Remember that they are SS balls, not chrome.

My Hood had a mix of plastic and SS and that was no good; when the plastic failed, they got under the SS and made a mess. I have all SS now and it is very smooth.

Well, duh! Another gem from these threads! I never thought of a bearing shop! If I have to replace some, I'll surely remember. BTW, my Schaefer stanchion-mounted furler turning block failed. The sheave chipped just enough to let some of the bearings out. I checked at WM. $100! A friend with a wholesale account got it for me for $60-ish. However, I checked Garhauer. They have one for $30! But, I needed it then...

You got it! Went to Sailrite site and it's the Isofurl. Thanks for solving this.
