Furling trouble

I have a C320 with a schaffer furling unit. The problem is that every once in a while the "stationary portion" of the spool piece turns about a quarter of a turn and results in the furling line exiting the spool towards the bow instead of towards the port side pulley wheel. As a result, I have to rethread the line to get it going towards the pulley. If I don't, the line drags against the spool stationary piece enough so I can't furl the sail. Any ideas of what is wrong?

How about this -

I used to have that problem. I think it was caused by the furling line bunching up at the top of the drum, and then the line jumped outside of the unit. I corrected it by making sure that the line leads aft at a 90 degree angle from the drum. In my case, I moved the block to the foredeck near the cleat. Never had any problems after that.

I have a similar problem

My rolling furler jams up on the bottom where the rope raps around the base to unfurl it and refurl it, and I don't know what I can do to prevent the moving pieces from continuing to jam it???
